PHEW WHAT A SCORCHER!!
How lucky we were that the hottest summer since 1976 held on long enough
to encourage a record number of visitors to our village fete.
This year was a truly community event, with the church, scout groups, WI,
SUN school, local charities and businesses all coming together to provide a
wide variety of stalls and activities for all ages. Superb entertainment was
provided by Flo Pugh, Sophie Seager, The Tonyx and the Clive Fortune Big
Band, all kicked off by an impressive and entertaining set by pupils from
SUN primary school, led by Head Teacher Daryl Jordan.
In addition to the usual fund raising stalls, there were representatives from
the Parish Councils, Ufton Court, St Mary’s Church, Berkshire Wildlife Trust,
Sulhamstead Police Training College, Sulhamstead Cricket Club, Royal British
Legion and Guide Dogs, all presenting information about the valuable work
There are so many people to thank: the stallholders and those who donated
items for the raffle, tombolas and wine; the scouts who worked so hard to
set up and clear the site; the barbeque-ers and tea makers who provided
such high quality refreshments and of course the visitors, whose deep
pockets helped SUN E to raise valuable funds for community organisations.
Special thanks to PR Motors who sponsored the advertising and barbeque
and to Franny and Paul Hornblow, whose overall organisation of the event
made this a very special day.
